Volunteer with us in North Carolina
The aftermath of Hurricane Helene, if our nervous systems are even able to witness the devastation, is on going and will be for some time. While most of us are fortunate enough to not know the trauma that comes with a natural disaster that changes your way of life, I think being able to witness the suffering and decide how we can best help is always the right thing.
I co-hosted my first retreat in Asheville almost two years ago. It was without a doubt, a life changing weekend. We stayed at a beautiful home right on the French Broad River and I have been told that it is most likely no longer standing. I have a fondness for places that provide the space for people to heal and for their lives to change. That weekend we spent there was filled with laughter and tears and connection. We released things into that river and dunked ourselves as a way to signify that we were letting go of what was holding us back – all in 40 degree weather.
I sat today and thought about what a retreat really represents and although we have a Key West retreat in the books for January, I decided that our energy would be best spent by providing support in North Carolina. One of our amazing friends and retreat attendees, Ginger, is volunteering in Asheville right now, collecting needed items, donating and helping people find safety. I’m going to post her amazon wish list below, if you feel called to donate, please do, these items will make it directly into the hands of the people who need them the most.
As for our retreat – we are foregoing it and intend to use that time to visit NC and volunteer so we can help give back to a community that deserves the support. Rebuilding efforts will take many months if not years, so help will be needed not just in the short term, but also in the months to come.
For everyone who has loved ones in that area, my heart is with you.
